What is the Play About?

Set in an old English tavern, the ghoulish characters gather to watch hangings. Each victim enters for a final drink before the hotel patrons gather at the window to view the event.

The final victim refuses a drink and is hanged seconds before the arrival of a reprieve. "I'd better have his drink myself. Funny day this. Funny day. Not the usual."

Reviews

"This play should be banned. It was horrifying to see such callousness portrayed on stage."
The Havelock North Herald

"Ancestral Fling is a slow-paced play. It grinds relentlessly to an horrific climax. It produces an overwhelming revulsion at humanity's casual sadism. During a hanging, Gertrude's casual conversation about her cat is blood-curdling."
The Christchurch Press
