What is the Play About?

The Chimney was named the best new New Zealand script for 1996.

Belinda is distraught. The chimney sweep is stuck up the chimney.

The arrival home of husband, Timothy, does not help matters. Nor does the arrival of guests for dinner.

While the women grieve, the men eat dinner. "There's so little we know. About what goes on. It's best to be guilty about life."

Reviews

"This was a classy presentation of Bruce Goodman's The Chimney from The Actors' Company. Goodman showed once again just how fine a writer he is. His play worked on many levels; it was a traditional mystery, a remembrance of things past, a discource on the nature of reality, and a reworking of the contemporary theme of how people talk past each other. The play was a perfect vehicle for The Actors' Company."
