Dear Mum & Dad,

Already the term has been going 2 weeks, & the weather has been miserable. We’ve had a lot of rain but it’s kept the temperatures down. The trouble is we’re losing a lot of the grape crop with mould. We’ve only had 2 days picking, but will probably be doing a lot more next week.

Gavin & Laurie have settled in well.

This year I’m singing master, which means I’ve got to take a singing class four times a week. It’s quite fun, but a lot of trouble finding new hymns to sing. With the 22 new aspirants we’re practically starting anew in learning hymns and other things we sing, such as Vespers.

Fr. Cody doesn’t take me for anything. I’ve got Fr. Weaver for the tract on “Christ”, Fr. Scully for the tract on “Faith, Hope, Charity & Prudence”, Fr. O’Meeghan for the Old Testament prophets, & Fr. Connolly for Sermons & Mystical Theology.

I’ve just been elected onto the Student Council. Six students are elected every year to have meetings regularly with the Fathers & suggest various things. For example, last year the Student Council got the Fathers to bring in Camp Weekends at Waimarama for small groups once a term. So that everyone gets out of the Seminary for 1 weekend once a term.

All those at Aurora Tce this year have gone from here. They enrol at University this week. Four of last years lot stay down, & 9 more from here have joined them so that there are 13 all together (I think). You lose track of who’s at what stage of the course these days. There are 19 at “Highden” this year.

Will Leo be going for his Flying Licence soon?

I haven’t started studying History I at Massey yet but they will probably be sending the first lot of work any day now.

Well, I think that that’s all the news.

Love from
Bruce
