Mt. St. Mary’s, P.O. Box 43, Taradale, 31st July ’72. Dear Mum & Dad & Leo, Happy Birthday Dad & Leo! Today we started classes for the second term. We came in from Waimarama last Friday. I managed to pick up a cold in the last few days at Camp & it seems to have got worse today… It must be because classes have started! The Brothers are preparing the ground for the new vineyards on the flat area next to the road. So far they’ve taken a couple of fences out and cut down some trees. Fr. Bonisch is back after 8 months overseas. The only thing different about him is that he’s got a beard! I don’t know if he’s going to keep it for long – No doubt until Fr. Hickey sees him next. It’s about 6 different colours, which makes him look like a tortoiseshell cat. On Friday night we went to see “Naughty Marietta” in Hastings. It was staged by St John’s & Tenison College. It was very enjoyable, & interesting because that was the musical we put on here last year. I think that if I’ve got any spare time this term I’ll use it for revising my Upper 6th Chemistry in case I have to take it at Victoria next year. Luckily one of the aspirants, Chris Reynolds, has an M.Sc. in Chemistry, so he’s going to give me a hand. Chris was actually invited by the Varsity to go on for a Doctorate but he went teaching in Samoa instead – so he’s very good, Well, I think that that covers all the news. No doubt you’re looking forward to retiring Dad? Love from Bruce |
