Dear Mum & Dad,

This seems to have been a week in which a lot of things have happened.

Last Thursday (as you probably know) Jack Hallagan and Mr. Donoghue died. On the same day we heard that Kevin Eastwick’s father was dying (Do you remember Kevin? He was in our band but left just before Novitiate). Also Mr. Papesch (who is blind and comes here every year to teach us singing) has probably got incurable cancer. Then Philippa was married on Saturday, & X was baptised on Sunday. So it has been a bit of everything thrown into the same week.

(Well I seem to have exhausted the news in a paragraph!) How did Philippa’s wedding & X’s baptism go?

Last Monday we had a conge at Puketapu.

On Tuesday we had out last day of grape-picking. I was picking this time. At about 3 o’clock there were 3 rows left to pick. Tony Solomone & I picked a whole row by ourselves in ¾ hr. & when we’d finished the 30 other pickers were still busy finishing off their 2 rows. Which just goes to prove that grape-picking is primarily a social event.

Today we went through the 1st Act of “Running Riot" without using the books. Now we have got 2 acts left whose words we have yet to learn – and the night the play’s on stage is 3 weeks today away.

Tomorrow is the Feast of the Annunciation – so we have a Sung Mass in the morning.

Well, I can’t think of anything else that has happened & is going to happen.

Love from
Bruce

P.S. I gave the cheque to Bro. Matthias.
