Medusa was a golden-haired beautiful maiden, devoted to a life of virginity. She forgot her vow when wooed by Poseidon. She was punished: each hair became a venomous snake.

“What the hell,” said Poseidon, putting a sack over her head. “I want sex, not love.”

Why didn’t someone remind him? Not every hair is on top of the head.
