The owner of the building had told the single residential tenant not to use the old elevator on the weekends. The reason was that if the elevator got stuck, the alarm could be heard only from inside the building. In the elevator the alarm sound could be deafening, and there was no cell phone reception. One would be stuck all weekend.
Now Sonja had been working late on a Friday night, and there was a slight emergency because she wanted to go to the toilet rather urgently.
