62. What makes a man?

Other teen males called him “Mary Jane”. He was effeminate. He spoke in a campy sort of adolescent way. He walked like a girl. The name-calling was more a way of others trying to establish their own insecure masculinity, than being per se a put-down for “Mary Jane”.

He hated the name-calling. He would hide in the toilet at school when he wasn’t in class. They all thought he hid in the toilet because he was a bit of a pervert.

One day, he ran onto the road and saved a six year old boy from getting run over by a bus.

“Hey!” said some teen male. “Did you hear that Mary Jane, that effeminate pervert who walks and talks like a girl and hides in the toilet, ran out on the road in front of a bus? Fuckin’ girl.”
