It was the first human colony on the Moon. In fact, the word “colony” sounds too important. It was a group of about a dozen scientists who lived in special accommodation that relied on regular supplies of everything from Earth. Maintenance had become too much. Oxygen and food supplies had dwindled down to just two days. The scientific venture had been worthwhile but it was unnecessary to keep it going. The group of scientists would be removed from the Moon and space voyages there completely abandoned. The final supplies space vehicle arrived. This time it was empty of supplies but with room for passengers. The scientists were both glad and sad to be going. The spaceship took off. They waved farewell with mixed feelings. As they sped back to Earth, Scientist Rupert spoke for them all: Our venture into moon-life wasn’t the end. This was the beginning of humans inhabiting the Universe.
