Raymond and Owen were brothers and took turns evening by evening to bring some firewood in from the woodshed. It was Raymond’s turn. “Watch out for the ghost in the woodshed,” said Owen. “Don’t be stupid,” said Raymond. “There’s no such thing as ghosts. I don’t believe in ghosts.” Several minutes later Raymond rushed back into the house, without a twig of firewood. He was white as a sheet. “There’s a ghost in the woodshed,” he panted. “I thought you said you didn’t believe in them,” said Owen. “I’ll go and get the wood myself.” After a short time Owen returned, arms loaded with firewood. “See! No ghost!” The following evening it was Raymond’s turn again. The same thing happened. He rushed into the house, even more terrified than the previous evening. Owen looked very pleased with himself.
