It is being billed as the most momentous murder mystery novel in a decade. This is before it is even available in the bookshops. People would be mad not to buy it. It is called “Mind Your Own Business”. (Nothing at all to do with some book-keeping program). People are getting murdered all over the place. There is blood and guts from the first chapter to the epilogue. It is an “unable-to-put-it-down” novel. Surely with all those murders there would have to be more than one murderer. Perhaps as the novel progressed murderers themselves became victims of murder. One pre-publication reviewer counted twenty-seven different ways used by the author to snuff out victims. Putting the old lady in the spin dryer and turning it on was perhaps the most graphic, although quite unbloody; at least at first. Then there was the mutilation of the corpses. It was almost over the top, but utterly compelling. My favourite bit was when a corpse was left in the hen house for the hens to peck to pieces and some rats came in and ate it first. It perhaps stands as a symbol of the selfishness in today’s society. Look after yourself first. They rats ate most of it without sharing. One reviewer had the audacity to write, “The ending is not revealed until the last page.” Yeah right. It would be stupid to tell on page 1 who the culprit was. Without giving too much away, the title of this whodunit is a most satisfying ending: “Mind Your Own Business”. It could be anyone – even someone who hasn’t made an appearance in the book.
