3306. Shoe shop
© Bruce Goodman 23 August 2025

All that young George wanted to do was to buy a decent pair of shoes to wear to his aunt’s funeral. The shoes he wore to school (it had been several years since he was at school) were worn and old. He could do with a nice pair of shoes. They would stay at the bottom of his cupboard and hauled out for funerals and weddings and formal things like that. So he went to a shoe shop.

The shop attendant was lovely. Her name was Trixie. She helped young George try on shoe after shoe. Maybe he tried on ten, fifteen, twenty different styles.

In the end he found the courage to ask her out.
