Everyone knew that Russell Kraakman was a bit of a nutcase. He had an expensive-looking camera and would take pictures of the sky, even if nothing except a cloud or two was there. Someone once asked him why he took photos of an empty sky, and he said that you never know when you might accidentally catch a photo of an extra-terrestrial unidentified flying object. They are everywhere if you’d care to notice. No one knew if Russell worked or not. He would regularly leave in his dilapidated old car from his dilapidated old house for somewhere. No one really knew where – and always with his camera. Kurt Beavis followed him once and he stopped near a large field and took photos of the sky. A nutcase indeed! Everyone was remarkably surprised when Russell left to go on a luxury cruise around the world. It would’ve cost the earth. He’d never shown he had money except for his expensive-looking camera. He had lived in his old house with his old car for at least five years. Not long after he had left for his cruise the Airforce announced they had developed over the last five years an aircraft totally shielded from sight, even from heat detectors and other sensory instruments. Their special thanks went not just to scientists, but to the few on-the-ground persons living in suburbia whose task it had been to record all experimental flights. Probably, observed Kurt Beavis, when Russell Kraakman gets back he will claim he had something to do with it. Yeah right. Back to Index Next Story Previous Story |
