3021. Fighting crime

Cedric had seen the armed robber surreptitiously sneaking up his tree-lined driveway. Quite frankly he’d had enough of crime. It was rampant in the area and no one seemed interested in doing anything about it. He would take the matter into his own hands. He’d been robbed three times in the last four months.

Cedric got his gun, hid behind a bush on his front lawn, and waited. The robber slipped behind some tall rhododendrons. He then reappeared. Cedric shot him dead. “Good riddance to bad rubbish,” said Cedric. “I’ve done my bit to rid the world of crime.” He went inside his house. He could see the dead body lying on the lawn. He drew the curtains shut.

In the morning he would draw the curtains open, spy the dead body, and call the police. “Yes, Officer, I simply opened the curtains this morning and saw the body lying there.”

The morning came. Cedric drew open the curtains. There was no body on the lawn. Cedric could sense a presence in his house.
