3022. The Plumbers’ Ball
© Bruce Goodman 26 June 2024

It was the Plumber Union’s Annual Ball. Darryl thought that Lesley Anne looked ravishing. He had been a bit scared to invite her to the ball as she was the daughter of the town’s mayor and he was a simple drain layer. But here she was, and they were dancing a slow waltz to the tune of “Moon River”.

That was when the earthquake struck. People panicked and rushed for the front door. There was a human traffic jam. There were screams. Bits of the porch began to fall on the exiting crowd.

“Quick!” said Lesley Anne to Darryl. “Come this way. Use the back door to the town hall’s kitchenette.”

There was indeed some advantage in being the mayor’s daughter and knowing the ins and outs of the local town hall. And that is how Darryl was saved by the belle.
