3015. Something strange

Some thought that Estelle was a little bit strange. She’d been that way for years. In fact, she had been strange for so many years that most people didn’t notice; they were so used to her strangeness. Estelle didn’t think she was strange at all. In fact, she found people’s opinions about her quite hurtful.

What then was strange about her? It was nothing much. She got around town with an old bicycle that had a tatty basket in the front for putting her groceries. What was strange was that she used to walk. She would push the bike around. She was using it as some sort of grocery trolley. But really! It looked most strange. In fact she pushed her bicycle around inside the supermarket. At first the authorities protested but after a while they got used to it.

And then she would go out at night – pushing her bicycle. No one had a clue where she went or what she was doing. Annette Deavon followed her one evening and concluded that she was simply getting a bit of fresh air.

And then all hell broke loose… Estelle was caught red-handed. “I always knew there was something strange about that woman,” declared Anita Bradshaw, “and now we all know.”
