3014. Morning coffee
© Bruce Goodman 8 June 2024

There was nothing unusual in Gwendoline making herself a cup of coffee at five in the morning. She always rose early, and the first thing she did was turn the kettle on which she had filled with water the previous evening. Filling the kettle with water the night before saved having to think at such an early hour.

After making the coffee she would check the news, taking particular note of the obituaries. One never knew if someone that she had met in her fifty-seven years had kicked the bucket.

After the news she would do yoga; a good half hour. She had done that for years, and dear me! it made all the difference.

This morning however things were different. She took her coffee and sat in an armchair. She would soon have to decide what to do with the husband she had murdered in the bedroom.
