3027. Nice and neighbourly
© Bruce Goodman 20 July 2024

My next door neighbour must be one of the most obnoxious people around. He lives alone – as indeed I do – and he doesn’t have a car so he walks everywhere. Not that I mind him walking. It gives me a bit of peace and quiet. Everything he does annoys the heck out of me.

He is retired – as I am – and most of his day is spent in his garage making things. He has skill saws and hammers and drills and lathes and… You name it, if it makes noise he uses it. Then around about five o’clock – depending on the season – he starts mowing his lawns. It’s just when I’m sitting down to relax with a pre-dinner wine to watch the news highlights. After dinner – my dinner, not his – he turns on the radio. Classic Rock. FULL BLAST. This goes on until about eleven each evening.

I try to be nice and neighbourly but there are times when things get too much. I’m happy to say I haven’t seen him for over a week. Not since he asked if I could drive him over to the other side of town to buy some special furniture polish.
