3026. The cloak of invisibilty
© Bruce Goodman 12 July 2024

The invention of making oneself invisible was late in arriving upon civilization’s scheme of things. The science of making oneself (and things) invisible was discovered by Samuel Blunt. It was quite a simple thing (apparently).

The first thing Samuel did once he mastered invisibility was to spy on a few people: his wife, his parents, his grown-up children, people at work...

The first hour or so was thrilling even though the way people acted was all rather ordinary and unspectacular. And then he saw something he shouldn’t have. Horror of horrors!

Samuel couldn’t face it. He took an overdose of pills and when he was discovered (decomposition counteracts invisibility) he was past revival. He was also past the stage when he could inform others of his invention – which is why we don’t have it to this day.
