3066. Edwina, the Christmas Fairy, Part 3

This is a continuation of Edwina, the Christmas Fairy, Part 2, posted on 8 December 2024. You may remember that Edwina had been overlooked as the fairy on top of the tree, and replaced by a dowdy image of Santa Claus. Edwina had been returned unwanted and ignored to a dark shoe box and placed in a cupboard. Then Mrs. Nettie Brinkworth, Edwina’s owner, had a change of heart and replaced Santa at the top of the tree with Edwina…

Was Santa furious or what? He had been replaced at the top of the Christmas tree by Edwina the silly Christmas Fairy. Of course, he wasn’t the real Santa, just a replica. In fact, unlike the real Santa, he was quite nasty. He did something dastardly. He wrote to the real Santa and said that all the children – in fact EVERYONE – in the house had been NAUGHTY! NAUGHTY! NAUGHTY! Don’t bother delivering any gifts to this house; just deliver a lump of coal or a rotten potato (depending on what country you live in).

Now it was Edwina’s turn to be upset. She waited until nightfall. Everyone had gone to bed. All through the house not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse. Edwina climbed down the Christmas tree. Taking some golden paper wrapped chocolate coins from a dish on the sideboard, Edwina snuck out the door and went shopping for Christmas presents.
