2882. Parole
© Bruce Goodman 22 October 2023

Steve always swore black and blue that hadn’t done the crime. In fact he was far away when the murder happened. The police had made up evidence. The more Steve spoke the more they twisted his words.

He had been in prison for twenty years. He always denied being the murderer. In fact he claimed he knew who it was and was not going to say. It was up to the real murderer to do the non-cowardly thing and confess.

Every year when consideration of parole came up he claimed innocence. If you owned up to it, they would say, we would consider setting you free.

After twenty years Steve had had enough. He confessed that he had done it. He was a free man. He was released from prison. The first thing he did was to go to his hometown and shoot his gutless father.
