2883. Room to think

Nathaniel had just finished murdering Mrs Angelina Thompson when a car pulled up at the front door. Fortunately the murder (by strangulation) had been bloodless, but he had to hide the body somewhere in a hurry. He shoved it in the shower cubicle and shut the bathroom door.

The visitor was Mrs Angelina Thompson’s sister, Mavis. She didn’t even knock but walked straight into the hallway. It was there that Nathaniel came to greet her.

“Who are you?” asked Mavis.

“I’m collecting for the Salvation Army and she asked me to mind the house while she popped out briefly. She should be back soon. Apparently it was some sort of emergency. I was a bit taken aback by her request.”

“Well anyway,” said Mavis, “I was just passing and realized I needed to use the bathroom.” Uninvited Mavis headed in that direction. This was Nathaniel’s opportunity. He dashed out, jumped into Mavis’s still running car, and took off.

He had hardly driven out the gate when he realized something. Turning the car around, he went back to the house. Mavis was in the hallway in a blubbery mess. Nathaniel strangled her there and then. Now he had two bodies to dispose of, but for the time being he had room to think.
