Lord Stanislaus McKendry wasn’t well-known for his fidelity to his wife. When Millie the Maid went into his bedroom one morning to empty the chamber pot, she witnessed Lord McKendry and Lady Constantia Marlow in a compromising position. Millie took off at the rate of knots and went to fetch Hans the Butler. He too was a witness to such chicanery.

Millie was personally appalled. She said even if it meant she would lose her job she had a good mind to inform Lady McKendry of her husband’s deception. Lord McKendry said if she shut up he would personally cook Millie the Maid and Hans the Butler a meal of exquisite expense. It would be like nothing they had ever seen. They agreed.

The moment arrived. The two sat at the oak table of the chandeliered dining hall. Lord Stanislaus McKendry entered pushing a trolley. There were many dishes, including a large silver tray with a silver lid.

“You are not to touch the silver tray with the silver lid,” said Lord McKendry. “I’m keeping it as a surprise for the end of the meal.” He left the room.

Curiosity got the better of Hans the Butler and Millie the Maid. They took off the silver lid for a peek. Out came a host of venomous spiders and several fang-lunging venomous snakes.
