2917. First grandchild

Christina Wilmshurst was slightly older than most when she became a grandmother for the first time. Her little granddaughter was born and she couldn’t have been more delighted if she had won the lottery six weeks in a row.

To add to the happiness, she got to look after the precious bundle of joy every Thursday while the baby’s mother went to work.

Christina knew that old age was creeping up on her. It wasn’t so much age as this going and that going. Her feet would get sore and swollen, her eyesight was dimming, sometimes she woke at night gasping for air, she had angina. She wondered how much longer she would have on this earth and so she prayed: “Dear God. Please transport me into the future. Perhaps just a year from now, to gaze at my granddaughter. Yes! On her first birthday, as I may not see it myself.”

Christina’s prayer was answered. She was transported into the very room where the granddaughter would celebrate her first birthday.

There was no one there.
