Steve played rugby for his school team. The big game of the year was against Alton High School. To be in the team that wins that annual match is a thrill beyond compare. Alton High School had been the “enemy” for over a century. When the coach announced the team to play, Steve’s name was missing. He wasn’t selected. Funny how things happen. On the way out of the gym, Gary tripped on a loose paving stone and broke his leg. He played First Five Eighth on the team – the same position as Steve. The coach replaced Gary with Les.
