2817. Griselda goes missing

Beverley couldn’t find her cat. She was most distraught. Had it been run over on the road? Was it stuck down a rabbit hole and couldn’t back out? Was it suffering? Maybe it had fallen in the stream while trying to drink and it had drowned. The possibilities for disaster were endless. Beverley’s imagination worked over time.

In a flash Beverley printed off a photo of Griselda with a phone number and placed it in neighbour’s mail boxes. She even put one on the notice board at the Veterinary Clinic. After that, clinging to her phone she walked several times around the block calling “Griselda! Griselda!” and listening for the meowing of a distressed cat. All with no joy.

Griselda had been away for three hours. The usually agnostic Beverley even said a prayer. Dear God, please bring Griselda back. Please! Please! No feline answered Beverley’s supplication. Beverley cried. She knew deep down in her heart that her cat was gone.

A headache had developed. It was stress. Beverley went to her bedroom to lie down.
