“Highden.”
Sun. 14th Sept. ’69.

Dear Mum & Dad,

I was pleased to hear that you managed to sell the farm. Are you looking for a house around Waikanae or anywhere along the coast?

My knee is much better. I spent Tuesday & Wednesday in bed. The bruise came out all around my knee cap, then right down the calf of my leg. It then shot up into my hip, so I don’t know where I’m going to find it next! I didn’t know that bruises did that.

We go into retreat next Saturday (20th) until Monday (29th) so I won’t be able to write or hear from you for two weeks. The retreat is on the Priesthood- our 3rd one, & only one more to go after it.

Fr. Mannix called in after lunch today.

I gave a sermon this morning during “Sacred Eloquence” class, on Our Lady, Help of Christians. It went alright.

This morning’s sung mass went quite well, considering that last night we discovered that we had prepared the wrong one. We decided to sing it at sight & no one noticed the difference – it was just the usual shambles!!!

We had another Sung Mass & a holiday on Friday because it was the Holy Name of Mary & the Titular Feast of the Society.

How did the “Quaker Girl” go? They are putting “Calamity Jane” on at the Mount.

My soutane is a perfect fit, thanks very much.

If you want to get rid of your tea coupons & stamps, send them to:- Students’ Mission Society, Mt. St. Marys, Greenmeadows.

Well, I can’t think of anymore news. Next time I write (October) I’ll probably write to a different address! So you’ll have to let me know.

Love from
Bruce

P.S. I don’t suppose the address will change after all since it is P.O. Box.
