St. Peter Chanel - Marist Saint of the Pacific

Highden.
Sat. 3rd May ’69.

Dear Mum & Dad,

Well, there is not much news this week. But please wish Sue a “Happy Birthday” for me. I had planned to write but my letter writing plan failed. John Lomu was due to go to the dentist on Tuesday, & he would have posted the letter, but the dentist cancelled the appointment & I had no means of getting a letter out. So please tell Sue.

Last Monday – the Feast of St. Peter Chanel – we had a Conge. It rained most of the time, but it was the best Conge we have had so far this year.

We have had 4 Sung Masses within the last 2 weeks – the 2 Sundays, & St. Peter Chanel & St. Joseph the Workman on Thursday so we have been fairly busy.

Kerry Maher’s parents (Mr. Maher works for Johnson’s Travel Agency) offered Mrs. Devlin a trip around the world!! It leaves in three weeks. Apparently the Johnson’s Travel Co. gets a free seat for every so many number of passengers. It is a Catholic Pilgrim Tour round the world, & of course Mrs Devlin is thrilled – she jokingly declared (according to Robert) that she can’t afford even a new hat, & if she can’t get a new one in the next three weeks she absolutely refuses to go or be seen anywhere! However, whether she gets her hat or not, I’m sure she’ll go.

Well, I think that that is all the news for this week. I hope you get some ducks. We hear a lot of shots going on around us every morning.

Love from
Bruce

P.S. Next Visiting Day is on Sunday June 1st from 1.30 – 5 p.m. That is the Sunday before Queen’s Birthday Monday I think. (We don’t observe the Queen’s Birthday in here!)
Bruce
