Mt. St. Marys,
Greenmeadows.
Sun. 29nd Sept. ’68.

Dear Mum & Dad,

I see in the paper where Bryan has died. I wrote Pat a note today. Did he regain consciousness?

Fr. Flanagan’s father also died on the 27th, at Napier. We had the body out here on Friday night, and had a Requiem on Saturday morning. The funeral is in Wellington tomorrow. Mrs. Flanagan & all of Fr. Flanagan’s brothers and sisters came to our Mass.

How did all of “The Merry Widow” Performances go? We had a dress rehearsal for “My Fair Lady” this afternoon and it went off very well.

Kerry Maher’s father had a serious operation the other day but is recovering okay.

A thought just struck me – can Penny crawl yet? Can she walk? Can she talk? etc!

Three Aspirants (Tongans) went up to Gisborne this weekend to a Missions display. They gave talks and were in a concert. Apparently it was a huge display and “hundreds” of people came to see it. It was organised by the Catholic Women’s League.

I suppose Tony and Rick are busy milking.

The past few days have been very cold, although today wasn’t bad. On Friday the temperature dropped 30°. The grapes are beginning to shoot, and if we have a bad frost in the night we will have to go out and “frost fight”. That is, light fires and let the smoke “hang” over the vines. Apparently you have a long sleepin if you get one. However, they haven’t had a bad frost here for some years.

Well, I think that that is all the news. Prayers for Bryan from here.

Love from
Bruce
