Eleven year old Jamie collected stamps. It was all pretty ordinary. He had a pile of old stamps that he couldn’t identify. There were six of them, and they were all the same. They didn’t seem to be in any stamp collectors’ books he looked through.

Then he saw a picture of what he had. It was on the news. The one on the news was a British Guiana 1c magenta. Jamie had six of them.

The one on the news sold for $9.5 million. It was said to be the only known one in the world.

Jamie told his father. His father took five of them and threw them in the fire.

“You’ll get more for one then you’ll get for six,” he said.
