No one really knew the old lady down the street. Most knew her with a passing hello and that was it. She was always pleasant but not the slightest talkative. And now no one had seen her for a while. After several months still she had not been spied. No relatives or friends were known or came forward. A group of women from the street volunteered to go through the things in her house and make some decisions as to what to do with them. That was when Rowena discovered a mirror in the musty attic. It wasn’t a large mirror and had scratch marks on the glass. Rowena showed it to the others. “What’ll we do with this?” she asked. “Those scratch marks are not on the outside of the glass,” observed Elvina. “They’re on the inside as if someone was inside the mirror trying to get out. They’re locked in the mirror. Those are fingernail scratches.” “That’s a bit spooky,” said Rowena. “Let’s deal with it.” The others followed her out to the garage where she took a hammer and smashed the glass of the mirror. “If there was a person behind the mirror they are free.” Within the week the old lady down the street was back to making her passing hellos. She was always pleasant but not the slightest talkative. Make of it what you will. Back to Index Next Story Previous Story |
