3219. Coming up roses

Brendan’s grandmother had told him often enough that it was high time he thought about getting married and starting a family.

“I haven’t found the right girl yet,” said Brendan.

Well, who should pop in but the neighbour’s daughter. She had come to ask if the old lady wanted any jobs done.

“Oh thank goodness,” said Grandma. “I wonder if you two would mind going out and weeding my rose garden?”

Beneath the blooming roses, their hands brushed lightly.
