I knew my mother would be pleased. She was always arranging dates for me and I hated it. If I ever get married it won’t be to someone my mother arranged. But I thought she’d be pleased with Anwyn and she was. We just met on the bus on the way home from work. She sat next to me and we got talking. In the end I asked her if she wanted to go out. We ended up taking in a meal and a movie. That was just the beginning. Things got better and better. I was thinking we should get engaged. Then I asked Anwyn something I’d been meaning to ask her for ages but always forgot. How come she was on the same bus as me when she lived in Brookfields in the opposite direction? “I don’t know,” she said – so causally, so matter-of-factually. “Your mother arranged it.” Back to Index Next Story Previous Story |
