Wallace was a foreign student at the university. He’d won a scholarship. He was the first person from his little village to attend university. He’d never seen such a big city (or such a big country) in his life. And he had a little car, so he could go here, there, and everywhere, apart from getting to lectures. “I don’t know how you won’t get lost in the big city,” his mother had said. To which Wallace replied, “If you take a wrong turning you can always come back.” “There are parts of this city,” said his academic advisor, “that you should never venture into. It’s dangerous, especially at night. Stay away! You don’t need to go into such areas.” Wallace was grateful for the advice.
