3161. Almond Flounder

After seven days in the hospital, Grover was looking forward to getting home and cooking himself a decent meal. Not that there was anything wrong with hospital food but he lived alone and liked to cook. He’d try little experimental recipes almost every day – except when it was a grand feast such as his birthday or Christmas. On those days he would cook the same special thing; his favourite – Almond Flounder.

Flounder with almonds was the recipe he would treat himself with when he got home from hospital. He didn’t even need to go to the grocery store. He had almonds he could sliver, parsley and lemons in his garden, and flounder in the freezer.

It was great to be home. He poured himself a little wine, played his favourite music most softly, slivered the almonds, poured another little wine, chopped the parsley, squeezed the lemon, heated the pan with butter, and all was ready for the flounder.

When Grover went to the freezer there was no flounder. In fact no fish at all. He’d forgotten he had run out.

Grover poured himself another little wine.
