3148. Black panther

It was a terrifying moment in her life. Paula’s boyfriend had recently moved out – in fact Paula had given him the push – but now she regretted it because there was a real live black panther in her backyard. How it got there she had no idea.

He backyard wasn’t the usual backyard. It was several acres of high fenced scrub. There was no way of getting into the area except through a locked high wooden gate. The previous owners had kept goats, and hence the high fence. And now in the cool of the evening Paula swore she saw a black panther. Perhaps it was shadows playing tricks in the dusk. But no! There it was; she could see it through the window.

How was she to let the dog out? Where would her Persian cat play? How did it get there? Paula called the local animal protection league. She was told not to be stupid. There were no black panthers about for hundreds of miles. But Paula wasn’t taking their word for it. She was convinced she had seen what she had seen. And then verification occurred.

There was the black panther near the steps of her backyard balcony. It was devouring the already half eaten body of her ex-boyfriend.
