3272. Just desserts

Janet and Dennis were at one stage happily married. Things changed when Dennis decided they should live in the woods and try to survive on Mother Nature. They weren’t of course entirely cut off from the world. They had newspapers, and radio, and phone, and television.

Dennis would often go away for several days at a time to see his elderly mother whom Janet had never met. The mother was in some sort of institution. Then Janet noticed something strange; every time Dennis wasn’t home there was a huge bank heist and people got shot. This went on for a year or so and Janet didn’t know what to do. Should she confront him? Should she simply ignore it? In the end she realized that everything had fallen apart so she decided to poison him.

It took Janet several weeks to devise a plan. She used what forest berries she could find, such as wild strawberries and wild raspberries mixed with deadly nightshade. She knew she wouldn’t have enough for a pie so she made jam. Once she had enough deadly nightshade jam she created the pie. She took the greatest care, especially with the pastry trimmings. The pie was a sight for sore eyes.

The moment arrived. Dennis sat at the table. He had finished his main course. “Would you like some pie for dessert?” asked Janet.

Janet went out to the kitchen and returned carrying the pie. Dennis shot her.
