According to Lois’ husband, Walter, the thing that Lois hated most in life was cleaning the oven. She didn’t have one of those self-cleaning ovens because she had this thing about the house burning down. So it was always done with a spray can of oven cleaner from the supermarket and a bucket of water and rags. The spray can from the shop had warnings about it being highly flammable and advising not to get the spray on the skin or eyes. As husband Walter said, “It was the irony of ironies when I had to call an ambulance for her when she was cleaning the oven; doing the thing she most detested. How she got the spray in her mouth I have no idea. She couldn’t be saved and the funeral is this afternoon. At least the oven will be clean when Colette moves in with me tomorrow.” Back to Index Next Story Previous Story |
