3096. Baker and bartender

I work in a bar in the evenings after finishing work to try and earn a few more cents. I work in a bakery during the day. I quite enjoy the bar job, especially after the first couple of weeks when I got to know a few of the regular patrons. I enjoy it more than I do working in the bakery. The boss at the bakery is an ogre. He is mean and cruel. I sometimes wish he would drop dead.

Yesterday evening the bar was pretty dull. There were very few patrons, except for a couple of guys at the far end of the counter having a whiskey and chatting. I pretended not to take any notice of them and began wiping down the bench at the far end. But I could hear most of what they were saying.

They were planning to kill my boss at the bakery. They had some major grudge against him. I missed hearing what that was, but they were going to do the foul deed that evening. The boss lived above the bakery so they would break into the shop.

This morning I turned up to work at the bakery at the regular time. The door was locked. I knocked. There was no answer. I went straight to the bar and asked if I could have a full-time job. I got it! This evening I presume those two guys will come in so I can pay them for a job well done.
