3125. The Proposal

Things were decided for Lloyd when he heard Geraldine say “I never go anywhere without this book of Shakespeare quotations. I read it every day.” So that’s what Lloyd would do: hide the engagement ring in the book at page 22. The poem was Shakespeare’s “Hark! hark! the lark at heaven’s gate sings”. The poem and ring would be Lloyd’s marriage proposal.

The next day Lloyd hadn’t heard a thing, so he texted Geraldine: “Read page 22 of Shakespeare quotations.” The answer came back: I saw it, but I thought you meant me to read the extract on page 23 from As You Like It: “I do desire we may be better strangers.”
