3175. Bear trap
© Bruce Goodman 14 April 2025

Your Honour – I had permission to set the bear trap. The bear was dangerous and constantly in a bad mood. It had entered my dwelling twice and wreaked havoc.

I had no idea that grandpa would turn up and walk straight into the trap. There was no one about. It seemed safe, and I hadn’t had visitors for over six months. I live alone and in the wilderness.

The death of grandpa was a complete accident. I had no intention whatsoever of killing grandpa. It’s not even manslaughter. It was nothing more complicated than an accident.

As I keep having to say: grandpa’s death was utterly accidental. My grandfather has always been wonderful to me. I loved him very much and was very saddened when he died. Whereas grandma has always been cruel and nasty. Totally mean spirited. I despise her. She’s a bitter, twisted old hag. I thought she was coming with grandpa.
