For a number of years Edwina had been the chief Christmas decoration. She would be placed at the very top of the tree, for she was the Christmas Fairy. From her position she could survey all the other decorations. Some of them were quite common and some looked very plastic. In fact there was a decoration of Santa Claus that Edwina thought was terribly dowdy and should have been thrown away years ago. The part that Edwina least enjoyed was the lying in a dark box for eleven months of the year, waiting to be lifted out, admired once again, and displayed. The main thing that kept her going through those dark months was the expectation of the one month of sheer seasonal joy. Sitting in the box with some of the baubles was a little trying, but at least she wasn’t sharing the storage with that dowdy Santa Claus. The Christmas season came at last! The lids were off the boxes! The light was so welcoming! Of course the less important decoration were hung on the tree first. The placing at the top of the Christmas Fairy was the highlight of dressing the Christmas tree. Edwina’s time had once again arrived! The dowdy Santa Claus was grabbed and placed at the top of the tree. The lid was put on Edwina’s dark storage box and returned to the cupboard. Back to Index Next Story Previous Story |
