3008. Too much of a hurry

I suppose it could happen to anyone when they’re in a hurry. Rhoda was late in leaving home to attend a funeral. It’s not that she knew James Patterson well, but he was a neighbour and one must be… well… neighbourly. They had lived two doors away from each other for only two months. Hopefully no one at the funeral would take any notice of her. Not attending the funeral might arouse some suspicion. You see, James Patterson had been brutally murdered in the muddy run of his fowl house. So far there were no leads. By staying away from the funeral Rhoda didn’t want the mourners to wrongfully start thinking she was the shameful murderer.

It wasn’t until she was driving to the funeral parlour that Rhoda noticed she had put her pullover-blouse on inside out. The sewing in the seams was showing. Oh well, hopefully no one will notice. It shouldn’t draw too much attention to her.

She arrived. There were quite a few people there. The only spare seats were at the front. Reluctantly Rhoda sat right in the front row next to James Patterson’s father-in-law. It wasn’t until she sat down that she noticed something; her shoes still had the mud from the fowl house on them.
