It was going to be an exciting start to the new semester at school. Khalid Maqsood had a suspicion that they would announce him as the new captain of the school’s top soccer team. His recent birthday gifts had included brand new soccer boots and a rather upmarket bag for his soccer gear. The school assembled. The head mistress gave some rather boring pointers. Then the head of sports came to the rostrum. “Here is the list,” he said, “of the season’s soccer team.” He read a list of names. Khalid Maqsood’s name wasn’t on it. He was devastated. Not only was he not the captain, he wasn’t even a team member. After the first soccer practice everyone wanted to know why Khalid Maqsood wasn’t there. “I’m not in the team,” he said. Oh yes he was!
