2846. Disappearing taillights

Eunice stood on the veranda in the late evening and watched the taillights of her husband’s car turn the corner in their driveway. The road out of their home in the mountains was not exactly dangerous but nonetheless full of crevasses and ravines. A driver had to be alert.

Eunice’s husband of fourteen years was leaving for good. He’d had enough. She could “do what you like with the pathetic farm. I’m outta here.”

As she watched his car taillights disappear around the corner she felt stressed. Suddenly there was a gigantic bang.

Eunice and the farmhand went inside the house.

“We’ll clean up the mess in the morning,” said Eunice.
