2944. The hassles of retirement © Bruce Goodman 24 December 2023 |
It was a Sunday (actually it was a Monday) when Tim (his real name was Daniel but he was known as Tim) went to church only to discover that the church was shut, no one was about, and it was Monday. Who cares? He was retired. He’d even forgotten his wedding anniversary the previous week. But so had his wife. Did they laugh about it when they realized! They went out to dinner anyway and took in a movie. It was just like the old days, except as they were to discover, the wedding anniversary wasn’t until the following week. But who cares? They were retired. They would simply go out to dinner and celebrate a second time. The secret to knowing what day was what day lay in the business of getting a calendar; something they had never bothered to do before. No good trying to find one for this year. It was December. They knew that Christmas Day was on the 25th. That’s all that mattered. Both had their presents wrapped and ready. Inevitably they had both settled on a calendar. When they opened their presents did they laugh! Great minds think alike. All they need do now is await the visit of their grandchildren. But their grandchildren didn’t turn up. It was only Christmas Eve. But who cares? They were retired. They would celebrate again tomorrow. Back to Index Next Story Previous Story |
