2943. A special Christmas present © Bruce Goodman 23 December 2023 |
Little Janice didn’t get much pocket money, but she had saved and saved all year to get her mother a Christmas present. She had saved seven dollars and seventy cents and she needed to get to ten dollars. She would have reached her goal but twice she had caved in and bought some candy. And then one day she opened the drawer on her bedside table to count the money and she must have counted wrong because it all came to ten dollars. There was only two days until Christmas so Little Janice went shopping. She wanted to buy her mother special salt and pepper shakers. They were the Three Little Pigs (because there was a third ceramic pig for mustard) and they all came to nine dollars and twenty cents. Little Janice had often seen them in the shop window and she knew her mother liked them because Little Janice had pointed them out to her quite often. But there was a Christmas sale on and the shop owner had raised the sale price to eleven dollars. Little Janice was distressed and went and told the shop keeper. The shop keeper was nice enough to sell them for exactly ten dollars. On Christmas morning, Little Janice’s mother said, “What a lovely surprise! How did you know these are exactly what I wanted?” Back to Index Next Story Previous Story |
