2937. Uncle Steve gets lunch

That’s Uncle Steve just come into the kitchen to make his lunch. I’m a bit scared of him. For no reason really. He’s very gruff.

I did a high school assignment on my great great grandmother – his great grandmother – and I asked him a few questions about her. She was one of the many women in the women’s suffragette movement. She didn’t throw herself under a horse like Emily Davison but she was pretty vocal! My teacher said my assignment was excellent.

I wanted to ask Uncle Steve if he would be interested in reading my assignment. Maybe he’d be keen. As I said, I’m a bit scared of him so I’m afraid to ask. He met the Prime Minister once and refers to him as Dave and not as Prime Minister Sangster. I’m not sure if that makes him important or not! But now that he’s in the kitchen getting some lunch I might ask him if he wants to read my assignment.

“Uncle Steve,” I said, “would you be interested in reading my assignment on your great grandmother and her role in the suffragette movement?”

He looked at me like I was from Mars and said “This bread’s stale” and walked out.
