2926. Fixed in a jiffy
© Bruce Goodman 6 December 2023

This is the seventh and final story of a week’s retelling of traditional folk tales. It is also someone’s 74th birthday. I would be delighted to pass on your felicitations.

A skilful saddle maker had worked hard and saved money all his life. He had a hundred gold pieces. For safety he sewed them into an old saddle.

One day when the saddle maker was in town a stranger came to the shop. The saddle-maker’s wife sold the stranger the old saddle with the hidden coins. When her husband came home he was distraught. The wife did not know who the stranger was.

Several months later the stranger reappeared. His saddle was very uncomfortable. It was hard to sit on and patchy. Could it be fixed?

The saddle maker fixed it in a jiffy.
