2830. You’re the artist

Bert was a bit of a stay-at-home character. Sure, he’d visit his elderly mother not infrequently, but visiting ones mother doesn’t require getting dressed up in fancy clothes. He could wear his gardening clothes for all his mother cared.

Then his mother died and he had nothing nice enough to wear to the funeral. It didn’t matter. People could think what they liked. As long as his clothes were clean his mother wouldn’t have minded much.

These days he occasionally goes out to the shops, but as long as you’ve got money the shop keepers don’t care much what you wear. Not until the check-out lady at the supermarket was Bertha. Check-out was right. He only wanted a bunch of parsley and some honey, and there Bertha was! He went straight to a menswear shop and said to the shop assistant, “You’re the artist: I’m the canvas. Dress me for a date!”
